The Hun School of Princeton seeks a dynamic and creative Part-Time Upper School Spanish Teacher for a position beginning in August 2022.
In today’s increasingly global environment, world languages are essential to the intellectual and cultural development of all students. The Modern Language and Classics curriculum is designed to develop students’ modes of communication and acquaint them with other cultures. Toward this goal, the department offers a series of courses, some compulsory and some elective, in French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Latin, and Ancient Greek. The ideal candidate will be able to make language come alive for our students, focusing more intently on skill development and learner engagement than on simply conferring information. Our curriculum privileges interdisciplinary connections and student agency, and we are looking for a teacher who will do the same.
Responsibilities:
- Up to two (2) sections of Spanish;
- Continuous professional growth in the content area;
- Contributions to Hun community life beyond the classroom.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred;
- Three years of full-time teaching experience is preferred, but other relevant experience will certainly be considered;
- Knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and K-12 frameworks;
- Ability to teach a range of courses in Spanish using the target language 90% of the time;
- A love for working with young people;
- A commitment to a diverse and inclusive community;
- A passion for teaching in an innovative, experiential, and student-centered environment;
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff;
- Personal qualities including resilience, approachability, and kindness;
- Excellent technology skills and experience integrating technology into the curriculum;
- Familiarity or experience with online instruction including the use of Zoom meeting technology;
- A desire to contribute to school life outside of the classroom on a lively boarding school campus.
