We are seeking a progressive (collaborative, process-oriented, flexible, culturally-competent, and engaging) special education professional to help identify, support, and coordinate learning services for primary-level students in need of intervention. This 60% position–24 hours per week, with the days/times to be determined by mutual agreement between the school and the teacher–will work closely with classroom teachers and the school’s Director of Learning Services (to whom they will report). This is a pilot position, for at least one school year, with a review of the position to follow for 2023-24. The position is an ideal opportunity for an experienced special education professional who is not currently seeking full-time employment in a school, or a recent graduate who may be starting out and can benefit from the school-based experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education/Learning Disabilities (Master’s preferred)
- An understanding of and experience in early intervention, assessments, and language acquisition
- A philosophy that views learning differences as strengths and builds confidence and interest in learning in students through an authentic and collaborative approach
- An engaging teaching style students appreciate
- An understanding of how to develop and promote executive functioning skills in primary school students
- The ability to teach through various modalities using a hands-on approach
- The ability to implement a number of differentiated strategies to scaffold learning for students
- The ability to manage data, collaborative planning, targeted objectives, and instruction to help students meet goals
- Outstanding organization and time management skills
- The ability to administer and analyze academic assessments
- Experience developing and implementing individualized learning plans for students
- Familiarity with educational technology and the skills to learn Seesaw, Schoology, AIMS Web, Fountas and Pinnell, G-Suite
- Social-emotional attunement to primary school children and strong cultural competence, with awareness of and sensitivity to issues in diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Experience with inclusion work in a classroom setting
- Special education experience/LBS1 or equivalent
- Experience with multisensory curriculums such as Orton Gillingham, Wilson, and SLANT
