College Counselor
Landmark Christian School, PK3-12, Independent Christian School located in Fairburn, GA, with satellite campus, K4-4, located in Peachtree City, GA
Position: Full-time, 12-month, Exempt
Landmark Christian School seeks a College Counselor for the 2022-2023 school year. The College Counselor is responsible for counseling high school students regarding college placement and coordinating assistance during the application process. College Counselor must be committed to the school’s vision, mission, and core values.
Reports To: Director of College Counseling
Essential Functions
- Help lead dynamic parent and student education programs regarding college selection, application/financial aid process, and admission procedures, along with other members of the College Counseling Office
- Advises students and their parents, individually and in groups regarding the college admissions process
- Write strong and effective counselor recommendations for students and advise teachers about writing recommendation letters
- Teach students to write effective college essays
- Assists with the coordination of the standardized testing calendar; arranges for review sessions, testing dates; provides pre and post-test counseling
- Coordinates accurate records of student testing and academic work with the Registrar
- Assists with student awards and awards ceremonies
- Represents the school at relevant state and national conferences and workshops; assists the Director of College Counseling with visits to and from college representatives
- Assists the maintenance of an informative and up-to-date college counseling office on campus
- Assists in organizing in house visits by college reps, and maintains communication with and knowledge of appropriate colleges
- Has a thorough understanding of Microsoft Office, Zoom, Naviance and knowledge of various online college application platforms
- Familiarity with Blackbaud a plus
- Possess a broad knowledge of colleges and universities across the U.S. and internationally
- Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of College Counseling and High School Principal
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate work in subject matter and/or counseling
- Active or recent experience (3 years minimum) working as a College Counselor preferably in an independent school
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Able to utilize the appropriate technology systems efficiently
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Works in a highly involved & busy environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment
