Elementary Teacher
McDonogh School is seeking an energetic, creative, and caring kindergarten lead teacher for August, 2022.
Essential Functions
- Create a classroom atmosphere that promotes joyful learning and an inclusive, welcoming, purposeful school tone and culture. Training in the Responsive Classroom approach is an advantage
- Instruct students in literacy and math skills using the Reading and Writing Workshop models and Into Math program. Experience teaching phonemic awareness and phonics. Additional content areas include social studies and social-emotional learning
- Express a clear interest in becoming an active member of the McDonogh community
- Work well with and appropriately mentor an associate teacher in the early years of his/her career
- Actively participate in professional development in order to remain current with best practices in early childhood education
- Use technology (Smartboard, Elmo, i-Pads) effectively to enhance and extend instruction
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents in proactive and professional ways through a classroom website, e-mail, phone calls, in-person conversations, bi-annual progress reports, etc.
- Demonstrate professional standards of presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
- Perform non-teaching duties in order to support and assist students throughout the day
- Collect and assess up-to-date evidence of student learning which demonstrates progress (work samples, writing samples, reading benchmarks, math assessments, etc.) to be shared with parents and colleagues.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching in an early childhood school setting. Bachelors degree is required. Formal training and qualifications in early-childhood education. Masters preferred.

- Accomplished with basic office and educational equipment (computers, tablets, smartphones, scanners, Smartboards, interactive boards, document cameras, projectors, copiers, printers, etc.)

- Experience with a variety of productivity and collaboration tools including Google and Microsoft app suites. Proficiency using a Learning Management System such as Canvas and Seesaw
- Must be able to comply with background check, including finger prints, as required by the agency and / or state regulations.
- Must have a positive attitude and a strong desire to support students and colleagues outside of the job description
Working Conditions
Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is typical, generally under 25 pounds. Reaching, grasping. Significant computer use, including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Sitting. Standing. Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling. Walking around campus.
