Position Summary:
The Assistant Head of Middle School works with the Head of Middle School and faculty to foster a positive, safe environment that will best meet the needs of all students and families. Together with the Division Head, the Assistant Head will develop programs and policies to support student academic wellness, growth, and achievement that ensure we are living our mission and values on a daily basis.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:
- Work closely with the Head of the Middle School to develop and implement goals for the Middle School and assess progress in achieving MS goals throughout the school year
- Plan and implement Middle School events designed to build community and culture
- Respond to students in need of behavioral support and intervention
- Communicate with parents about challenging student behavior
- Evaluate, update, and oversee the Middle School advisory program
- Assist faculty leaders in planning and organizing student travel
- Actively engage in and support daily operations of the school community by participating in faculty and grade-level meetings, recess and lunch duties, and additional school events
- Modify student schedules to accommodate special event days
- Plan and implement service learning activities in collaboration with school chaplain
- Maintain direct communication with the Middle School Learning Specialist and teachers to ensure all students are getting the support they need
- Assist Middle School Head with fifth grade to sixth grade transition
- Support middle school admissions process
- Proofread comments and review report cards
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Middle School
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education; Master’s Degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years experience teaching
- Demonstrated commitment to belonging, love and justice
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents both verbally and in writing
- Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Excellent technology skills
Salary Range & Benefits:
