The Agnes Irwin School, an all-girls' Pre-K through 12th-grade independent school in the Philadelphia suburbs, is committed to fostering the intellectual and personal growth of girls and young women. The Agnes Irwin School's History and Social Sciences Department seeks a dynamic and creative full-time Upper School History Teacher for the 2022-2023 academic year. Candidates should possess a passion for teaching and enjoy working in an academic environment with colleagues who value collaboration as well as independence. Successful candidates will have a proven record of teaching History, engaging students in class, managing a classroom in an effective and safe manner, and inspiring a love of learning.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach four of upper school History courses including electives
- Prepare course materials
- Maintain student attendance and grade records
- Evaluate and grade students' work
- Be available to meet individually with students during office hours and planning periods
- Participate in the life of the upper school by attending assemblies, serving as an advisor, coach, and/or club sponsor as necessary
- Participate in professional development and faculty evaluation process
Successful candidates will possess:
- Bachelor's degree in History related discipline required; advanced degree and previous experience teaching upper school History preferred
- Possesses an ability to teach analytical writing, critical thinking, and research skills.
- Has skills designing and implementing project based learning and experiential curricula.
- Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Has a strong background in many areas of history, particularly American history, African American History, and/or Global History.
- Has interest and/or experience designing interdisciplinary curricula, particularly within the humanities.
- Regards collaboration as an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team.
- Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings for meetings, conferences or school activities as required
- Willingness and ability to coach a sport or to be involved in the performing arts is highly desirable
- Proficiency in the use of innovative classroom technology
