$1000 bonus after 8 weeks of successful teaching,

Serve as a Science/math teacher, or co-teacher, for up to 15 students in elementary or middle school. Teach foundational and age-appropriate skills and content using the VSA Curriculum Map to guide instruction. Content areas taught will mostly be Science, but may include reading, writing, math, social studies. In addition, VSA teachers may provide small group literacy or math intervention for groups of students. The specific responsibilities of a VSA teacher include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and implement class and small group instruction following the VSA Curriculum Map and VSA Scope and Sequence.
- Understand K-8 Science standards and design lesson plans for classes and small group instruction that address student needs and engage student strengths.
- Regularly assess student growth using school-approved formal and informal assessments.
- Set educational goals for each child and monitor progress towards these goals through a combination of assessments and observation.
- Regularly document academic and behavioral progress of each student.
- Positively participate in growth producing feedback sessions with the Head of School.
- Communicate on a consistent and professional basis with parents, including preparing for and conducting conferences with families regarding student progress.
- Attend and contribute to weekly school staff meetings, which will be held once per week for 60-90 minutes and may require staying until 4:30 on Wednesdays.
- Supervise students during carpool, lunch and/or recess one or more times per week.
- Maintain a classroom environment that is organized, prepared, and conducive to student learning.
- Review the procedures and policies outlined in the employee and student handbooks and support and comply with those policies.
- Participate in workshops or other in-service training programs provided at VSA, at the local public schools or by an approved organization.
- Plan and coordinate class parties and field trips.
- Accompany and/or supervise students on educational outings.
- Participate in enrollment decision meetings.
- Plan weekly with other teachers and tutors to ensure consistency across classrooms regarding instruction and student expectations.
- Serve as an excellent role model to VSA students by modeling professionalism, maturity, resilience, flexibility, compassion, and a positive attitude.
- Actively participate in transition plans for exiting students.
- Be available to confer with school systems where children may transition following VSA.
- Other professional services, meetings, or duties as requested by the Head of School and/or as needed to meet the evolving needs of the VSA student population.
- A past background free from criminal convictions that could indicate lack of suitability for working with children.
- Expected school hours 7:45-3:45, plus meetings and parent/teacher conferences. Sometimes work may occur outside of the regular hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.A/B.S. or higher or documented certification(s) and experience to complement the role.
- Trained and licensed with the Colorado Department of Education or related field and have achieved or willing to pursue certification.
- Trained in Orton Gillingham methodology.
- Trained in Self-regulated Strategy Development, or willing to participate in these training sessions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Portfolio (written or video) of teaching lessons or demonstrate a lesson with VSA students.
