Friends Seminary, an independent Quaker school educating students in grades K-12 in New York City since 1786, seeks a passionate, knowledgeable and team-oriented art and shop teacher for the Lower School, to begin in the 2022-2023 school year. The preferred candidate will have an extensive understanding of child artistic development and a desire to grow as a professional educator.
Responsibilities
- Teach small group art and shop classes in grades K-4
- Help organize and maintain art materials in the art studios
- Install and label exhibits of children’s artwork for all classes
- Manage inventory and place supply orders
- Participate in regular school division, art department and all school meetings
- Communicate with parents as needed, including curriculum night
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in art or education required; Master’s degree in art education preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
- Knowledge of artistic child development from Kindergarten through Grade 4
- Enthusiasm for connections between visual arts and other STEAM fields, especially engineering and design
- Commitment to valuing and incorporating diversity of influences and perspectives in curriculum and instruction as well as creating an inclusive experience for all students
- Teaching experience in Elementary Visual Arts education required; 3 years minimum preferred
