Job Summary:
Under general supervision, provides one-on-one and small group instruction in reading and writing to Middle School and occasionally Upper School students with learning needs. Learning Pathways teachers are part of the Integrated Learning staff and carry a caseload of students to ensure their overall success at UPrep. Learning Pathways is treated as a class in students schedules and meets three to four times per week within a rotating schedule.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provides one-on-one or small group instruction in reading, writing and executive skills to Middle School and occasionally Upper School students with language-based learning needs, using strategies including, but not limited to Orton-Gillingham and Wired for Reading
- Advocates for students and provides instructional strategies to teachers in grade level SEAM meetings
- Collaborates with teachers to integrate effective instructional strategies within the classroom
- Promotes the Learning Pathways program by assisting with information materials and meetings with prospective parents
- Supports day-to-day student needs such as proctoring assessments, supporting students, and coaching for executive function and study skills
- Supports intensive classes twice a year by assisting teachers and coaching students
- Actively engages in DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and SEL (social emotional learning) work that supports educational equity in the school
- Actively participates in the life of the school outside of the classroom through chaperoning, joining grade level trips and attending school events
- Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school's constituencies
- Vigorously engages in his/her own professional development; is a life-long learner who enhances his/her skills, using state-of-the-art technologies to maintain high standards of performance to efficiently and effectively produce work products
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the schools documents
- Since safety and security are everyone's responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
- Engages with openness and positive intent in department and faculty meetings, faculty and parent trainings and student seminars
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university
- Familiarity with one or more multi-sensory teaching approaches to reading (Orton Gillingham, Wired for Reading, Lindamood Bell, Slingerland, Wilson)
- Experience in literacy instruction for students with learning needs
- 3+ years work experience in school or higher education environment
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Interest in working with students with documented dyslexia and/or dysgraphia
- Demonstrated competence in literacy instruction for students with learning needs
- Willingness to share expertise in meetings and faculty trainings

- Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows environment (Windows 7 or higher), using Office (version 2010 or higher), including Outlook; ability to master common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology; experience with school-focused technology such as Schoology is a plus
