Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School & Center, a K-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking a middle school math teacher.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
- Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Establish a strong sense of community and culture to create a safe learning environment for all members of the learning space
- Work collaboratively with Assistant/Cooperating Teacher and all members of a team that emphasizes the individual needs of learners
- Plan middle school math curriculum, lessons, and assignments
- Maintain class websites with course descriptions, pictures, etc.
- Write student report cards, IEP goals, and progress reports
- Support students by
- Scaffolding in-class assignments, tasks and projects
- Developing critical thinking, problem solving skills and tools to become self advocates and productive learners
- Utilizing multimodal methods of teaching
- Assess student work and participation
- Maintain organized and consistent classroom management system
- Initiate and maintains parent contact
- Seek improved methods of teaching through professional conferences, readings, supervisory help, and evaluation of teaching results
- Attend relevant staff meetings as required
- Other duties as assigned (lunch, hallway, etc.)
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have...
- BA or BS Degree area of math, education or related field preferred
- MA or MS Degree Math Education, Special Education or related field preferred
- NYS Teacher Certification
- Three or more years of classroom experience building positive and appropriate relationships with young students
- Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
- Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology in the classroom
- Interest in professional career development in the field of special education
- Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor
