Fountain Valley School is a co-ed, college-preparatory boarding/day school enrolling 245 students in grades 9-12. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics and the outdoors in a diverse community to develop young adults who are courageous, open-minded, self-reliant, curious, and compassionate. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position reporting directly to the Director of Enrollment Management. The Office of Admission oversees the admission and financial aid process and the continued enrollment of its boarding and day students. The admission staff works collaboratively on the recruitment, evaluation of new students, and retention of all enrolled students.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Admission will demonstrate creativity, collegiality, a welcoming demeanor and a high level of energy matched with strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and computing skills to manage the Admission Office. A keen attention to detail, an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks independently during high-pressure periods, a genuine interest in promoting the School to prospective student families, educational consultants, placement directors and a high level of professionalism, initiative and confidentiality are essential qualities. The ability to articulate the distinct attributes of independent education is paramount and an understanding of the ethos of boarding school is critical.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for assisting in the recruitment and selection of appropriate students
- Assist in the formulation and implementation of local, national and international marketing plans
- Support all on-campus recruitment events and lead assigned off-campus events
- Manage faculty and administrative follow-up with prospective and newly admitted students
- Interview prospective students/parents on campus and support the planning of individual school visits
- Virtually interview or tour prospective students/parents on zoom, GoogleMeet or other platforms
- Support and lead pre-assigned virtual monthly events
- Cultivate relationships with feeder school administrators, independent educational consultants and alumni/parents for the purposes of applicant referrals
- Support the Financial Aid Committee with discussions and decisions
- Collaborate with Development office for recruitment/travel initiatives
- Assist with special event planning
- Coordinate Admission Ambassador program
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the director
- Participate fully in the life of Fountain Valley School, including:
- Attend Faculty Meetings and in-service sessions
- Participate in weeknight and weekend duties, as assigned
- Attend All School programs
- Other duties that accompany working at a boarding school
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong use of Google and Microsoft Office products
- Previous experience in database management, OnBoard/Blackbaud a plus
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent analytical, communication and social skills
- Commitment to customer service
- Requires a strong attention to detail
- Team player with a strong capacity for initiative
Working Conditions
- Environment: Office working with prospective high school students

- Physical Demands: Able to sit, stand and lift up to 30 lbs for eight hours per day, occasional weekend and/or weeknight obligations
