Garrison Forest School is seeking a dynamic and passionate Middle & Upper School music educator commencing August 2022. Ideal candidates will have the ability to teach a variety of courses and to work collaboratively with students and faculty. Encouraging a love and appreciation of music, the GFS student-centered, general music curriculum includes singing and classroom instruments (handchimes, drums, Orff instruments, ukuleles) for 6th, 7th and 8th grades and opportunities for further exploration of both vocal and instrumental music in Upper School. Other responsibilities include serving as Music Director for the Middle School Musical and directing and leading the Middle School Chorus, the Upper School Chamber Choir and the auditioned, mostly a cappella singing groups, the Blue Belles and Ragged Robins. Working closely with the Middle & Upper School Head and Performing Arts Department Chair, the music teacher is responsible for coordinating Middle & Upper School music performances (Winter and Spring concerts) as well as a variety of music performances at all-school events, in collaboration with the Performing Arts Department. Strong piano and choral conducting skills are a requirement for this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as an advisor to a group of students in one particular grade level
- Work alongside the Middle and Upper School Administrative team to build a meaningful learning experience for students
- Work alongside grade level teams and a cross-divisional Performing Arts department to build cross-curricular connections and interdisciplinary projects
- Create a secure and stimulating environment in which students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and interact together
- Take responsibility for being a role model by maintaining an environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues
- Possess strong communication skills, a patient and thorough understanding of early adolescence and the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues
- Contribute to the life of the School by chaperoning Middle School field trips as well as one weekend activity for the Residential Life program and several weekend activities for the Middle School

Qualifications:
- A degree in Music Education - B.A. or equivalent - is strongly preferred
- Prior experience working with children in a school
