The school currently serves nearly 400 students in two divisions: Barrie Lower School (12-months to 5th grade) and Barrie Middle & Upper School (6th to 12th grade). Position and qualifications
Barrie Middle & Upper School (grades 6-12) is seeking a Middle & Upper School Math Teacher for the 2022-2023 academic year. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of teaching experience and a passion for inquiry based education and project-based learning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- At least two years teaching experience in independent or public schools.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to antiracist teaching practices, building inclusive community, and personal growth and awareness
Responsibilities
- Teach a total of four sections of 6th grade math, 7th grade math, and Algebra I
- Advise a group of six to 10 middle or upper school students
- Attend weekly faculty meetings
- Work with the Learning Specialist to ensure all students’ needs are being met
- Lead proactive, transparent communications with families to support students
- Work with the Dean of Studies on appropriate math placements for students
- Collaborate with academic leaders and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team to foster inclusivity and belonging in the classroom and community at large
- Run or co-chaperone an immersive Extended Study Week (ESW) program each year
- Perform supervisory and substitute duties as needed in the middle and upper school
- Fully participate in the life of middle and upper school
