The Field School is a coed, college-preparatory, 6-12 school in Washington, DC recognized for its approach to education, and its ability to meet the needs of a wide range of learners. The school enrolls around 370 students. This position works with the Athletic Director to develop and implement a physical education curriculum and program that fosters physical activity, health and wellbeing.
This position reports to the Athletic Director. While all employment agreements are for 12 months, this position is expected on campus on a faculty schedule (approximately mid-August to mid-June).
Primary responsibilities include:
- Teaching physical education classes.
- Ongoing review and modification of the physical education curriculum.
- Daily, weekly, and unit planning of physical education classes.
- Communicating with students, teachers, advisors, and others as needed to facilitate the success of the physical education program.
- Modeling enjoyment of and commitment to physical and mental health.
- Maintaining any needed certifications as stipulated by D.C.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Working with the Athletic Director, the Middle School Director, and the Assistant Head of School to:
- Ensure the physical education program is meeting the goals of the Athletic and Middle School Programs.
- Ensure all students are finding points of entry into the program.
Candidates for the position should possess:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- A passion for physical education, and athletics.
- A proven ability to work with middle school aged students.
- Strong planning and communication skills.
