The position is for the academic year starting in August 2022. A salary commensurate with experience, degree attainment, and qualifications is paid to employees annually. Full time employees are eligible for our benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, disability, tuition remission, professional development/education funds and the ability to participate in the school’s 403(b) retirement program.
Position Description and Qualifications
St. Johns Country Day School, a K-12 college preparatory school in Orange Park, Florida, seeks a full-time Band teacher for its Middle and Upper School divisions for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Middle School, the Middle and Upper School Band Director will be responsible for the following:
- Maintains an engaging, secure, and stimulating classroom environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues as students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and interact together.
- Teach five to six (5-6) classes, ranging from beginner to advanced musicians.
- Prepare for and conduct multiple band concerts throughout the year, often coordinating with the chorus.
- Display a rich knowledge and expertise in teaching and leading instrumental music as well as the ability to perform basic instrumental maintenance and repair.
- Chaperone band trips for regional and state competitions and clinics
- Contributes to the broader school community by participating in activities, events, and trips outside the classroom.
- Actively collaborates with colleagues across grade level, subject area and interdisciplinary teams.
- Seeks out and participates in opportunities for professional growth and development that result in the implementation of applicable current, modern teaching practices.
- Possesses strong communication skills and the ability to effectively innovate and collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong proficiency and adaptability in educational technology and modern pedagogy.
- Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to classroom duties, other responsibilities will include acting as an adviser, writing student progress reports, collaborating with faculty and parents, and other faculty duties as needed. St. Johns encourages faculty to participate and/or create clubs based on their interests as well, both to bridge the gap between teacher and student and to share their unique skills and talents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Music is required; Master's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of music classroom teaching experience in grades 6-12, ideally in an independent school setting.
