Position Description:
The Facilities Manager executes, coordinates, and supervises all physical plant growth and maintenance across campus buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure that the property, and its mechanical systems, are in excellent condition inside and out. This involves performing maintenance tasks on a regular basis and coordinating the use of and overseeing outside contractors for certain projects. The Facilities Manager must be able to deal appropriately with a variety of stakeholders, including directing vendors and contractors. The Facilities Manager reports directly to the Chief Finance and Operations Officer (CFOO) and collaborates with the Leadership Team and the Head of School to ensure a safe and orderly physical environment to support the mission of the School.
Key Accountabilities:
- Plan and oversee a continuous preventive maintenance operation.
- Oversee facility refurbishment and renovations.
- Work with outside project professionals, including engineers, architects, attorneys, and municipal administrators.
- Work closely with the CFOO to develop work schedules for repairs, renovations, and capital projects.
- Respond to facility and equipment alarms and system failures.
- Prepare facilities for changing weather conditions.
- Hires and supervises a daily cleaning crew, currently with an outside vendor.
- Assists the Director of Catering and Events to support the Parents Association, summer programs, and all other School associations in related needs, such as meeting and event set ups and tear downs
- Assist the CFOO in preparing necessary information for the Board of Trustees Property & Insurance Sub-Committee and attends/participates in meetings.
- Work with the CFOO on campus safety issues during inclement weather.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters and materials.
Qualifications – Education, Skills and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or experience in related field, preferably with engineering, architectural, or construction/facilities management concentration
- A minimum of three to five years professional experience in a plant of a similarly sized organization, with Independent school experience helpful
- Working knowledge of principles and practice of project management
- Great time management, organization, and prioritization abilities
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
- In-depth knowledge of building safety regulations and security protocols relevant to school operations
- Understanding of facility equipment including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, safety, fire, and communication systems
- Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and terminology of building trades
- Demonstrated ability to train and supervise others
- Demonstrated ability to embrace the School’s Episcopal identity, ethos, and commitment to respecting the dignity of each individual
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural competence through behaviors and attitudes that enable effective cross-cultural interactions
- Ability to leverage the knowledge, skills, and abilities of colleagues in fulfillment of responsibilities
- Effective communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate in English and Spanish preferred
- Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, and evenings when necessary
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs
Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work closely with the CFOO and the Director of Catering and Events.
- Serve as a member of the Property & Insurance Sub-Committee of the Board of Trustees.
- Ability to work independently and/or with teams.
- Contribute to a positive School culture by building collaborative, collegial, and respectful relationships and overtly supporting teachers, administrators, and the Board of Trustees.
- Work in collaboration with other members of the Leadership and Administrative teams for the benefits of the School as a whole, in any capacity necessary.
- Participate fully in the School community. Fulfills other duties as assigned, including but not limited to lunch, recess, and carpool.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Ability to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools and power equipment
- Ability to withstand inside and outside environmental conditions, including inclement weather
- Ability to walk, stand, maintain balance, climb ladders, crouch, bend, stoop, lift 50-75 pounds

Employment and Operations Team Vacation Policy:
- Benefits include health, dental and retirement.
- Two weeks paid vacation with one additional week of holidays over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Breaks.
- Two days of paid personal leave during the year. Personal leave time may not adjoin scheduled School vacation time or breaks.
- Except in emergency situations, personal leave must be arranged at least three days in advance and approved by the CFOO.
