PHYSICAL EDUCATION/PHYSICAL HEALTH TEACHER
Reports to: Head of Lower School and Head of Middle School
Status: Salaried, exempt, full-time, 10-month position
Purpose: To focus on fulfilling Physical Education Standards as stipulated by the Physical Education Framework for California Public Schools and the International Baccalaureate Program.
Duties:
- Provide comprehensive Physical Education and Physical Health instruction to students in grades 4-8.
- Coach one athletic sport per trimester.
- Collaborate on the development of the courses of study according to curriculum guidelines and the International Baccalaureate Program.
- Ensure that the course of study is modified for multiple levels of physical and academic ability and previous experience of students.
- Purchase, repair and maintain the materials used in the P.E. Department as well as securing equipment in storage on a daily basis.
- Developing and updating the Fitness Testing Program.
- Record board – update information after each fitness test in September, January and June.
- Maintain records of academic performance with online grade reporting and parent-teacher conferences, both regularly scheduled and as needed.
- Monitor locker room.
- Support the school and its leadership.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School, Head of Middle School and Head of School.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
- Proven success in curricular instruction and coaching multiple sports.
- A comprehensive understanding of the application of best practices, inquiry based instruction, backwards design, and formative/summative assessment
- Proven ability to engender a real love of learning.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills.
- A strong customer service focus (internal and external).
- Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders of the school.
- Highly ethical team player with a professional demeanor and willingness to work as a member of multiple curricular teams.
- High energy, self-starter with ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which time sensitive deadlines are the norm, as are interruptions.
- Strong computer skills with a proficiency in MS Office Suite.
