Elementary Teacher
A small, community oriented elementary school is seeking a dynamic teacher for first grade.
School is a microcosm of life and the place where children spend the majority of their time. The vision of our school is to give children who attend not only a solid academic education but a spiritual backbone that will allow each child to reach their own potential. We believe this starts not only with teaching children a spiritual practice, but with creating a spiritual discipline program that is based on spiritual principles which allows teachers, faculty, parents and students to have a common vocabulary and common goals.
Our model is based on a unique definition of success and the understanding that success is a constant process that does not always have a finite point of closure. We believe that success comes in small victories over and over again throughout the child’s school experience and these small successes will help to provide a child with a spiritual foundation that will serve them their whole lives. Knowing that Light exists in everyone is the basis for teaching tolerance and human dignity and a way for developing relationships.
Our teacher’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Planning and coordinating lesson plans that instruct individual students, small groups or whole class to carry out the curriculum
- Planning and coordinating logistical arrangements for special projects: field trips, special class activities
- Prepare and organizing instructional material
- Maintaining an orderly, clean classroom that is conducive to both individual and group work
- Perform duties as assigned by the School Director (i.e. morning yard supervision, lunch duty, pick-up duty)
- Maintain positive relationships with colleagues
- Attend all faculty meetings
- Support social and emotional growth and development of students through caring interaction and instruction in and outside of the classroom
Position Requirements:
- BA
- Teaching credential preferred, but not necessary
- Minimum 2 years of teaching experience
- Proven ability to teach and support children one-on-one, in small groups, and in a full-class unit
- Experience planning and implementing dynamic classroom lessons that are standards-based and incorporate hands-on, project-based, collaborative, and experiential learning, as well as higher-level thinking skills such as logical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving
- Ability to differentiate instruction based on diverse learning styles, interests, and abilities
- An understanding of the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of elementary-aged students
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to interact positively and effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff
