Assist the Director with overall management of the program at Montclare Children's School, an early childhood preschool program for children ages two through five. The Education Director will supervise and support teacher practice as well as attend, contribute and support the Child Study Team in identifying and implementing needed services for children with developmental needs (i.e. CPSE). S/he will be a member of the Administrative team and support the Director in any aspect of her job that is needed on a daily basis.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Hire, supervise, evaluate and provide professional development for classroom and specialist teachers.
Organize and manage Team Meetings with Staff, both Head Teacher and Assistant Teacher Meetings.
Act as a liaison between Administration and Teachers.
Review lesson plans, oversee the curriculum, and monitor children's progress and development.
Oversee camp, after school and coordinator.
Meet with teachers and parents to communicate concerns.
Coordinate floater schedule and coverage rotation.
Model appropriate teacher practice in the classroom for teachers.
Assist interview process of applicant children.
Consult with Admissions Director, Exmissions Director and Director in coordinating student classroom placement.
Organize, arrange and develop field trips and "special" school programming.
Consult regarding camp classroom placements/program/separation.
Coordinate and approve classroom supply orders for teachers.
Work with Admin Team to review/update teacher and parent handbook and develop school procedures.
Ensure cohesive communications, end-of-year transitions and curriculum development.
Facilitate MSA Action Plans with MSA Committees (Accreditation)
Other duties as needed to assist the Director
Masters Degree and NYS certification as Early Childhood Education teacher according to regulations in effect prior to September, 1966; AND NYS certification with major emphasis in Early Childhood Education as specified in Article 47.09 NYC Health Code; or (2) NYC Board of Education license as a teacher in Early Childhood Education (ECE) classes, as specified in Article 47.09 NYC Health Code. In addition, a minimum of 5 years of experience as group (head) teacher in a program for children under 6 years of age is required.
OTHER:
Physical requirement: climbing several flights of stairs during the course of the day. Availability: Must be available for special evening events during the school year. Must be authorized to work in the US and successfully complete a fingerprint background check.
