5th and 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher (.75 FTE)
Sheridan School, an independent K-8 school in Washington, D.C., is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, student-centered middle school social studies teacher who loves history, current events, and humanities and wants to positively impact the lives of young people through social studies education. The social studies teacher is responsible for effectively collaborating to create a nurturing educational environment, delivering high-quality instruction, and supporting the social-emotional growth of students.

The individual who fills this role will:
- Provide a progressive, concept-based, social studies curriculum to students in Grades 5-6.
- Assess and adapt the curriculum to meet needs of students and classes in a flexible and responsive manner.
- Attend and actively participate in Mountain Campus trips, as assigned.
- Use a variety of assessment techniques to track student progress
- Serve as an advisor in the Middle School advisory program
The successful candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in a related field, several years of experience as a classroom teacher in a high school or middle school, a proven ability to establish supportive relationships with all school constituencies, strong communication and writing skills, mastery of skills/content/understandings of middle school social studies, and knowledge of developmental stages of students in 5th-8th grade.
