Position Summary
The Assistant Director of DEIB reports to and works with the Director of DEIB to achieve diversity and inclusion goals, efforts, and initiatives to create and foster an open and inclusive environment for students, faculty, staff, and parents. This role includes: the development, implementation, and monitoring of programs that promote cultural competency across Pingry’s Basking Ridge campus; the growth and advancement of the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core institutional value by managing internal and external partnerships.
The Assistant Director will understand and embrace the mission and values of Pingry and support the consistent progress of initiatives tasked to the Office of DEIB . As assigned by the Director of DEIB, the Assistant Director will collaborate with both the Middle School and Upper School Division Directors, the counseling office, and families to make the school a more inviting, inclusive, and exciting environment for all.
Responsibilities:
- Serve on Pingry committees and boards, as assigned by the DEIB Director.
- Coordinate Upper School and Middle School affinity groups.
- Support Upper School and Middle School Advisory programs and Academic Placement teams.
- In collaboration with the Director of DEIB, oversee the delivery of programming for DEIB to meet short and long term goals for Pingry.
- Partner and work closely with the Divisional Cultural Committees to ensure their ongoing success with delivering DEIB initiatives across the School.
- Offer support to and collaborate with the Lower School division as needed.
- Support the Admissions department with the admission process, tuition assistance, and DEIB alignment screening.
- Collaborate in the development of a restorative justice response approach to help community members through bias incidents and microaggressions.
- Represent Pingry in the greater independent and public school communities with regard to DEIB.
- Partner with the Communications and Marketing department and maintain and manage the DEIB dashboard.
- Coordinate Pingry’s attendance at the POCC conference
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree is required, an advanced degree is preferred.
- Experience with and enthusiasm for working with Middle and High School level students.
- Understanding the developmental milestones for Middle and Upper School students.
- Experience with advising students.
- Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.
- Robust interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Dedication to partnering collaboratively with a team of talented employees.
- Comfortable with incorporating the latest technology into your workflow, including Schoology and Zoom.
- Skilled in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience creating, supporting, and sustaining a culture of access and equity in a school environment.
- Demonstrated success at sustaining a culturally responsive, and anti-racist school culture.
- Teaching experience and familiarity with progressive pedagogy, curriculum development, and support, and identity development.
- A collaborative, service-oriented, and restorative justice-based approach to facilitate and foster effective professional working relationships across the school and all constituencies.
- Must be able to balance working autonomously and as part of a team to contribute to the promotion of the school’s mission.
