St. Luke’s School seeks a dynamic, inspiring Upper School Librarian. The two-story St. Luke's Library resides at the heart of a 36,000-sq.ft. Humanities and Art wing that opened in September 2018, housing abundant resources including a carefully curated print collection, more than 200k e-books, a Discovery catalog, and a robust suite of databases. The Library also includes a dedicated instructional classroom, breakout space, and an adjacent cafe, with opportunities that abound for collaboration, creativity, and camaraderie.
Reporting directly to the Head of Upper School, and working in close partnership with the Middle School Librarian, the Upper School Librarian will be a highly collaborative faculty partner who values the mission of the school and is committed to empowering students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. They will have an abiding interest in evaluating continual changes in the fields of education and library and information sciences, and understand the needs of and take great joy in working with adolescents. This is a full-time, school-year (summers off) position with excellent benefits.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

Help foster a culture of reading in the St. Luke’s community through programming, collaboration, outreach, and instructing patrons in the use of print and digital resources.

Work closely with faculty and staff to strengthen connections between the Upper School Library program and student research, curricular content, and digital literacy needs.

Manage the budget, develop policy and philosophy for, and maintain an up-to-date, culturally diverse collection of print and non-print resources appropriate to the Upper School curriculum.

Take the lead role in developing policies, practices, partnerships, and curricula that guide Upper School students to develop a full range of information and communication expertise.

Collect, evaluate, and report on Library usage statistics.

Perform circulation desk duties and provide guidance to students and faculty in information retrieval, effective searching and evaluation of information, and ethical use of information, including bibliographic attribution and citation

Serve as an active member of the Upper School Academic Council, participating in weekly discussions and decision making about the broader academic program in that division.

Monitor and maintain acceptable student behavior in the Library and other school spaces.

Serve as co-advisor for a group of 6 to 8 Upper School. students.

Assist with supervisory duties as needed, such as study hall proctoring and chaperoning.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with at least two (2) years of Librarian experience required; Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution preferred

Strong technology skills and experience with platforms such as Follett Destiny, LibGuides, Noodletools, and a variety of library management systems and databases.

Strong cultural competency skills grounded in the practices of a School Library; a demonstrated commitment to furthering the creation of an equitable and inclusive school community that supports a deep sense of belonging

Experience effectively managing a budget and meeting deadlines

Positive, flexible, and collaborative colleague with a strong customer service orientation

Self-starter who enjoys building programs and relationships

Excellent oral and written communication skills
