POSITION: Librarian (School-year, Full-time)
Under the direction of the lower school head and principal, perform school librarian duties. Instruct students in selecting and using library materials; plan, organize, coordinate, oversee, and provide library services; purchase and catalog books for library collection; process and circulate library books; process and shelve library materials; assist students, teachers, and staff in the selection of library materials; assure that students and teachers have access to library materials for classes, assignments, and recreational reading; provide introduction to the library; create lesson plans and teach library classes for preschool through grade five students on a weekly basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to, the following):
- Have a passion for children’s books and for choosing the right books to recommend to students
- Carefully select and present a diverse variety of books to classes
- Teach carefully curated lessons on a variety of topics relevant to students today
- Begin each class time with a short mindfulness or meditation activity that brings calm to the group and emphasizes the importance of emotional wellness
- Coordinate Oakwood’s Birthday Book program, coordinating with parents on donating books to
our library in celebration of their child’s birthday - Maintain library collection, including current and classic offerings
- Coordinate with teachers on topics that are being taught in each grade
QUALIFICATIONS
- Passion to work with young children and their families
- Previous experience with children
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Warm demeanor with high expectations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-30 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment.
- Frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear
- Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations on campus
- Normal school environment and moderate noise levels
