The Gooden School, an independent Episcopal kindergarten through eighth-grade co-educational school in Sierra Madre, is looking for an experienced math teacher to fill a long-term leave position for the fifth through eighth-grade math program. The math program requires a full-time teacher from mid-August through mid-December, 2022.
This position requires a background in teaching both grade-level and accelerated classes in general mathematics (fifth and sixth-grades) and Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 (seventh and eighth-grades). It also requires experience with different learning styles and the ability to differentiate instruction appropriately.

Responsibilities:
- Acts as a role model for the students through professionalism and classroom management
- Supports the mission, philosophy, policies, and goals of the School
- Ensures the health, safety, and welfare of all students
- Maintains the confidentiality of all school, faculty, and student information
- Follows all policies and procedures outlined in the Student-Family Handbook and Employee Handbook
Duties:
- Creates lesson plans using pacing guides created by the usual classroom teacher
- Helps meet the needs of all students in the classroom (differentiated instruction)
- Creates a positive environment that fosters confidence and resilience and collaborative problem-solving
- Attends all staff meetings, in-services, and required school functions
- Supervises morning/lunch/recess/carpool duties as assigned
- Communicates with Assistant Head and advisor about classroom conduct
- Manages classwork and homework record keeping
- Completes report card comments for all students for first trimester
- Maintains a professional attitude with students, parents, and other staff members
Desired Qualifications
- Teaching credential preferred
- A minimum of two years teaching experience
- Commitment to working in a diverse learning environment that necessitates flexibility, professional behavior, a positive attitude, and a desire to enhance professional growth
