Title: Reading and Learning Specialist
Reports To: Division Head and Assistant Head of School

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Job Overview: St. Bernard’s seeks a Reading Specialist for the 2022-23 school year. Under the direction of the Junior School Division Head, the ideal candidate will provide instruction for designated children with accommodations, intervention plans, and those who meet the criteria for additional support.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure safety and well being of students
- Have and understand the love for working with elementary-aged children
- Provide instruction for designated children with accommodations
- Possess a knowledge of learning differences, the ability to understand test results, and an understanding of the diverse teaching strategies
- Collaborate and participate with Division Head and teachers
- Be available to parents through written communication, phone calls, and in person conferences to communicate about their child’s progress
- Create a positive relationship with parents and colleagues by returning e-mails within 48 hours on workdays
- Instruct differentiated small group reading in Grades K-3
- Attend all required faculty and team meetings
- Demonstrate a commitment for professional development; staying current on research on the latest reading practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Orton Gillingham training or training in Wilson, PAF, or any other program using the OG methodology
- Student centered, collegial, passionate, and innovative
- Master’s degree in reading or literacy preferred
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in teams with a wide range of individuals
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse learning environment

- Understand that hard work and good habits must be developed by students and that development is aided by patience, practice, and passion
