Moravian Academy is seeking a passionate and dynamic English teacher for the Downtown Campus Middle School (grades 6-8).
Position Description
This full time faculty member will be responsible for teaching Middle School English Language Arts courses. This teacher will lead an advisory group of students and make a significant contribution to student life as an additional responsibility (for example, an elective course).
The school seeks candidates who are innovative, technology-savvy, have a firm grasp of teaching pedagogy, knowledge of literature, and embrace and understand the unique developmental stages of middle school-age students. This teacher will collaborate with the other Middle School teachers to design activities to reach the full potential of each student in mind, body, and spirit and reports to the Director of the Downtown Campus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach a discussion-based, inquiry-driven English Language Arts program for middle school-age students.
- Design innovative instructional methods to meet the needs of diverse learners’ academic, social and emotional growth in the fields of reading, writing, and history.
- Assess and report with frequency students’ progress and performance, including writing progress reports.
- Develop and nurture positive relationships with students, fellow faculty members, and families.
- Attend divisional, full-faculty, and parent meetings as needed.
- Develop and coordinate curriculum across disciplines with specialists and other teachers.
- Conduct a well-managed, mutually respectful classroom environment.
- Participate in professional collaboration including committee and divisional meetings, cross-divisional efforts, and grade-team meetings.
- Engage in continued professional development.
- Perform duties and coverages outside of the classroom across the Middle School.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in English or similar field, an MA or MEd preferred.
- 2-3 years experience teaching intermediate or middle school-age students.
- Training in research-based best practices and current teaching methods.
- Proficient in educational technology such as Google Apps, SMARTboard, online textbooks, teacher webpages, and iPhoto.
- A passion for teaching and children.
- Preference will be given to applicants with a previous background in independent schools and those trained in Developmental Designs, Responsive Classroom, or a similar SEL program.
- Experience with creating and implementing a rigorous, engaging curriculum.
- Fluency in Spanish is not required but would be an asset.

Duration:
This is a full-time position for the 2022-2023 academic year, starting in August 2022.
