ART INSTRUCTOR
The Phelps School seeks an Art Instructor for its studio art classes for middle and upper school students. Class sizes are typically five to ten students and the goal of our arts program is to inspire our boys so that they may develop a knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the arts through experience and opportunity, regardless of ability. The instructor will foster a dynamic classroom environment that is conducive to the intellectual, social, and emotional development of boys while cultivating a learning experience that motivates each student along their individual creative journey.
Teachers at Phelps serve as advisors to as many as five students and are fully involved in co-curricular programs as coaches, activity sponsors, weekend trip chaperones, and community service project supervisors. Some reside on campus in faculty housing and serve as dorm parents (supervisors). They are dynamic men and women dedicated to helping each boy become a better man – in and out of the classroom. They enjoy working with students in relatively small classes and engaging collaboratively in curriculum design and constant professional improvement. They strive to integrate technology into their teaching and to help improve students’ creativity and critical thinking skills.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, though Master's is preferred
- Extensive knowledge of learning differences and strategies therein
- Facility with a variety of instructional methods and assessments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a positive and proactive communication style
- Ability to create a learning environment that addresses and supports each student’s needs
The teacher may have the opportunity to serve on the residential life staff, with campus housing provided. Salary is determined accordingly.
Please send letter of interest, resume, and references to Tony McGeorge, Head of School, at employment@thephelpsschool.org.
