The Harker School, a private TK - 12, located in San Jose, CA seeks qualified applicants for the position of Director of Annual Giving. This is a full time, benefited, 12 month position.
Position Summary
Manage all aspects of the annual giving campaign, including marketing/communications, outreach, campaign volunteers, and stewardship. Provide support for the capital campaign. Working with the executive director of advancement, increase financial support from the community for school programs and strengthen the connection that parents, alumni and alumni parents have to The Harker School.
Qualifications
The Director should have the following experience and qualifications:
- An organized and strategic approach to institutional advancement with 5 years of equivalent successful management and development experience in an institution or organization that has a reputation for quality and excellence;
- A record of success in raising money that can include elements of the following: shaping and implementing fund raising or earned-income events (theater productions, seminars, galas, shows, etc.); broad-based knowledge of various development activities including: phonathons, mailing campaigns, events-within-events, auctions, fund raising dinners and recognition, direct solicitations; broad-based familiarity of how to leverage fund-raising databases and support systems for donor segmentation and research;
- Proven ability to collaborate with a diverse group of personalities with a record as a team builder, trainer, motivator and cheerleader;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and gain the respect and support of a head of school, staff members, trustees, volunteers, faculty, students and the like;
- A track record as an exceptional communicator, in writing as well as verbally; adept at writing proposals, solicitation letters, donor correspondence, and other kinds of material for publication;
- A knowledge of independent schools, either as an alum, parent or from prior work experience is preferred, though not essential;
- A comprehensive network and knowledge of philanthropy and funding sources in the greater Silicon Valley.
