COMPENSATION
This is a part-time, academic year position. Salary is dependent on education and experience; teachers are given salary credit for teaching experience.

St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School seeks a dynamic Ceramics Teacher with a commitment to Middle and Upper School arts education in a boarding/day school with a diverse and welcoming Episcopal environment. This is a 10-month, part-time position and reports to the Academic Dean. The Ceramics Teacher is a member of the Arts Department. Outstanding candidates will be self-directed, possess exceptional rapport-building skills, have a generally upbeat and enthusiastic disposition, and enjoy working with other adults to encourage challenge, balance, and joy in the lives of adolescents.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The ceramics teacher will:
- Teach beginning to advanced levels Ceramics, including wheel, slab and firing techniques
- Prepare student artwork for on-campus and regional gallery exhibitions
- Assist students in creating portfolios for college and arts intensive program applications
- Maintain professional contacts in the visual arts and ceramics field and stay abreast of changing technologies related to the fields
- Participate in departmental planning and curricular review
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Enthusiasm and commitment to caring for adolescents
- Commitment to St. Andrew’s-Sewanee’s mission and vision and comfort with the tenets of the Episcopal Church
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree, and preferably a graduate degree, in visual arts, ceramics, or a related field
- Commitment to innovative teaching methods
- Familiarity with kiln firing and studio maintenance
- A willingness to fully participate in a boarding school environment, and
- Enthusiasm for teaching within a diverse community of learners.
Applicants with prior teaching experience and/or independent school experience will be given preference.
