Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Department Chair of Health & Well-Being. The Department Chair of Health & Well-Being will lead the health teaching faculty (Grades 5-12) in designing and teaching a state-of-the-art, harm reduction and trauma-informed health curriculum. The Chair will oversee and promote development of curricula and professional development programming aligned with our expectations for student-centered, research-based content and pedagogy in accordance with the standards set forth in the National Sex Education Standards: Core Content and Skills K-12. The Chair will also supervise and evaluate Health faculty in order to ensure that evolving curricula represent progressive understanding of the field and of student-centered instruction. The ideal candidate will bring strong content knowledge of health and wellness; a love of teaching and learning; appreciation of and respect for students at this developmental phase; enthusiasm for collaboration; flexibility; and a sense of humor.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Oversee the development of Poly’s evolving health curriculum for Grades 5-12;
- Hire and evaluate health teaching faculty to ensure the highest standards of instruction and student support;
- Promote curricular innovation and the development of assessment strategies consistent with the school’s commitment to students’ well-being, belonging, and social-emotional health and development;
- Promote departmental faculty’s professional development on a regular basis by supporting faculty in individual goal-setting and forward planning and offering clear and regular feedback about their progress;
- Support inclusive practices that weave diversity, equity, and contemporary experience into all departmental teaching;
- Lead regularly scheduled department and other meetings aimed at attaining and maintaining standards of curricular excellence and effective student support;
- Attend conferences/seminars related to health instruction on a regular basis in order to remain current with research and innovation in the field.
Teaching:
- Teach three sections of health courses across the curriculum;
- Support inclusive practices that weave diversity, equity, and contemporary experience into teaching;
- Work with students on an individual basis, as need be;
- Keep accurate grades, effectively and supportively communicate with students and families, and provide written and oral feedback on student progress consistently throughout the school year.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Attend community events throughout the school year;
- Attend and contribute to meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to department, committee, and division meetings;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of School for Academics and division heads.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in health, nutrition, psychology or related disciplines required. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: 3 years of teaching experience in middle or high school; leadership experience preferred.
Requirement: All employees must be fully vaccinated and show proof of their full COVID 19 vaccination and booster (if eligible).
