The Dean of Students holds responsibility for the student community's experience at Hebron. Hebron's Dean of Students provides proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to support students' achievement, personal and social development, and access to effective mentorship while enrolled. The Dean is also responsible for all issues relating to the behavior of students. Working closely with the Assistant Head of School for Student Life and the Head of School, the Dean coordinates all restorative justice responses to student infractions as well as routine accountability. Central to this work is collaboration with the Dean of Faculty to support professional growth programs for faculty centered around social-emotional and restorative justice programming. In addition, the Dean supports and advises Residential Life and assists with initiatives that pertain to student accountability or behavior. Student life support work relies on an understanding of the role identity, affinity, justice, equity play in students' feeling they belong. The Dean works with other administrators towards striking a balanced support of and advocacy for all students by centering their personhood while upholding the Hebron community's expectations.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Maintain consistent accountability and safety for all students
- Facilitate student restorative justice programming and all correspondence/record-keeping relating to these processes
- Manage student attendance and rules compliance programs including student behavior agreements and substance use agreements
- Communicate regularly and directly with parents regarding student behavior, restorative justice, and citizenship performance
- Serve on the Student Support Team
- Serve on the Administrative Team
- Work with the Travel Coordinator in monitoring and tracking student vacation plans
- Coordinate all weekend sign-outs and permissions
- Supervise the proctor program, including the proctor selection, training and support programs
- Create and revise the proctor handbooks in collaboration with the Assistant Head of School for Student Life
- Coordinate the student Advising program - Grade 6 - postgraduate
- Facilitate structured Social Emotional Learning programming led by advisors in collaboration with the Director of Mental Health and Wellness
- Working closely with the Health Center, guide and counsel students in building healthy and positive relationships with peers and adults
- Coordinate all regular student gatherings (morning meetings, etc) as well as special events/rituals
- Chair the Events Planning/Hebron Traditions Working Group
- Serve as Administrator on Duty (Currently 1x week and once every 3rd weekend)
- Teach 1 course or equivalent and coach or lead 2 seasons of activities
- Keep the Assistant Head fully informed on student issues and all other relevant matters pertaining to school life
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in a student life leadership position or equivalent essential
- Facility with GSuite (in particular sheets) essential
- Basic level of DEIJB & Training and experience essential
- Student management software (Boardingware/Orah) experience preferred
- Student management software (Blackbaud) experience preferred
- Training in conflict resolution preferred
- Understanding of best practices in group facilitation preferred
