Manlius Pebble Hill (MPH) seeks an innovative, well-educated, and empathetic teacher for its Upper School English classes. Our school places the health and well-being of its students at the center of its program, and the successful candidate will be able to reflect and demonstrate those priorities in their pedagogy. MPH teachers give special attention to building relationships with students in an intellectually playful environment. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will advise a group of 8-12 students and facilitate or co-facilitate two clubs. The ideal candidate will be creatively responsive to student needs and have a demonstrated willingness to participate in the life of the school.
The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach ninth grade World Literature and eleventh grade American Literature; other courses are possible, including a Publications Workshop. The successful candidate will be a member of an English Department that is committed to developing lifelong readers and writers. Especially important is the writing process and the role of revision in producing clear and meaningful writing. Providing thoughtful, targeted feedback to students on drafts and in conferences is an essential skill for MPH English teachers. The successful candidate will have a passion for literature and writing that they can convey to, share with, and develop in their students. A background in creative writing, publications, or editing is also desirable.
This full-time position offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package with the potential for professional growth depending on experience and qualifications.
