Woodberry Forest School seeks an Assistant Director of Advancement Services for its Alumni and Development office.
General Description: The Assistant Director of Advancement Services will manage a variety of administrative responsibilities to include acknowledgment generation and reports to support the development team. The candidate will manage multiple, complex projects, prioritizing as needed to keep them on schedule with careful attention to detail. The Assistant Director of Advancement Services reports to the Director of Advancement Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drafts and mails correspondence.
- Enters information into the development database including but not limited to visit reports, contact data and gift entry, ensuring that appropriate documentation is used to support all significant database changes and that changes are made with precision and accuracy.
- Assists with special projects to include but not limited to Grandparents Day and Advisory Council.
- Supports the Assistant Headmaster for External Affairs and the Director of Parent Engagement with all requests.
- Assists with alumni, prospect and foundation research.
- Generates reports as requested by the development team.
- Provides general support to the development team as assigned by the Director of Advancement Services.
General Skill & Experience Requirements
- Possess excellent listening and oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge, skill and ability working with complex relational databases. Experience with Raiser’s Edge is preferred including expertise in data extraction and manipulation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Suite.
- Meticulous, detail-oriented, organized, and able to prioritize and multitask.
- Ability to be a team player with a positive outlook.
- Proven success as a skilled, creative problem solver who is able to learn quickly and independently.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and to work well under pressure and maintain a calm and professional demeanor.
- Consistently punctual and reliable.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Previous experience in the development/advancement offices of independent schools or other nonprofits is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Ability to work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
