The Opportunity:
Oxbridge is seeking a full-time, experienced Social Science Teacher with a specialty in Economics. The ability to teach in another area of the department is also prized. Core courses taught in the Social Science department include World History, US History, US Government, and Economics. Electives in recent years have included Financial Markets, Entrepreneurship, Psychology, Contemporary Issues, Tyranny and Democracy, World Fairs, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics. Over the next few years, Economics, Finance, and Entrepreneurship offerings will be integrated with the Free Enterprise Institute, Oxbridge Academy’s newest signature program. The Free Enterprise Institute will plan and host community events to foster market innovation and learning through problem-solving, teamwork, entrepreneurship, ethical decision-making, and exploration of the role of capitalism in society. Together with a stellar team of expert colleagues, the right candidate will have a supporting role in that process.
Tasks/Essential Functions:
- Engage students using data and texts to promote understanding of how economic systems contribute to the human experience.
- Instruct on-level and advanced students in introductory economic concepts, including the history of economic thought, economic systems, market structures, production, scarcity, choice, economic indicators, supply and demand, and business cycles.
- Prepare learning activities in an environment that fosters collaboration, inquiry, innovation, and personal discovery.
- Provide meaningful feedback on both formative and summative assignments.
- Adapt and differentiate teaching methods and instructional material to meet students varying needs, abilities, and interests.
- Collaborate within the department, school community, and greater community on multidisciplinary projects and initiatives.
- Cultivate Oxbridge’s core values of kindness, courtesy, integrity, respect, and compassion.
- Advise a group of students and keep parents and legal guardians informed about student progress.
- Pursue relevant professional development to maintain expertise in subject matter, curriculum development, and teaching methods.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree or undergraduate major in a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to engage the interest of middle and high school-age children.
- At least three years of relevant classroom teaching experience. Ability to work well with students, parents, and all members of the Oxbridge community.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate improved learning, habits, and measurements of achievement.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment.
