Bishop Fenwick High School is looking for a full-time, talented, passionate, innovative, and inspiring French teacher to start working in August 2022. Bishop Fenwick is a Catholic, academically rigorous, and personally supportive co-educational college preparatory school located in Peabody, MA. Qualified applicants will meet the following criteria:
- Master’s degree (preferred)
- French proficiency (required)
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
- Ability to teach a range of French classes, from beginner to the AP level.
- Ability to work collaboratively within the World Language Department and with other departments
- Be well-versed in the Communicative Approach (and/or Task-Based Language Teaching), with sound ability to help students build the language naturally on solid grammatical grounds through conversation and communicative activities: interpretive, interpersonal and presentational modes
- Use various instructional strategies that are academically rigorous and highly engaging
- Develop an inclusice learning environment that promotes intercultural competence
- Contribute to school life in meaningful ways outside the classroom (coaching, leading extra-curriculars, supervisions, etc.)
Teaching Responsibilities:
- 5 sections of French
- Design lesson planning that is thoughtful and intentional, design a classroom experience that is engaging, challenging, encourages student voice, and promotes active learning
- Communicate effectively, positively, and consistently with students and families to provide feedback on student progress throughout the year
- Create, develop, amend, and assess curricula, contents, assessments, and teaching methods as necessary to foster a student-centered learning environment
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work collegially and collaboratively, and a willingness to go the proverbial extra mile for students
- Have a strong knowledge of differentiated instructional strategies, with a focus on emphasizing student strengths and developing essential skills
Additional responsibilities include:
- Advising a club or activity
- Attending and contributing to meetings during and after the school day, including, but not limited to, department, committee, and grade-level meetings
- Participating in the life of the Fenwick by attending community events, being present for major school functions, and supporting the overall mission and culture of the School
The successful candidate will possess excellent content knowledge; a passion for teaching and learning; enthusiasm for working with students, families and colleagues; a positive attitude; and a growth mindset. She or he will be able to inspire and empower students to learn; write well; and commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. A degree in French or similar field preferred.
