The Lang School (thelangschool.org) is a progressive independent school in lower Manhattan serving grades K-12. Our high potential and gifted learners also have learning challenges, such as ADHD, anxiety, EF difficulties, dyslexia, or high functioning autism. These twice-exceptional (“2e”) learners have a unique set of social-emotional and intellectual needs. We have an opening for a full-time Drama Teacher that starts August 22, 2022.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS:
- Teach four sections of Drama weekly with a focus on performance skills, including acting techniques, voice, timing, improvisation, and taking direction to K-7 students;
- Teach one section of Drama weekly as an elective for 8th-12th grade students; Direct and oversee a school-wide winter and spring showcase production; Collaborate with Music and Art departments in producing schoolwide productions;
- Demonstrated competence in planning lessons and developing curricula; Excellent classroom management skills are a must;
- Experience with special populations (special education or gifted education) is a major plus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BFA/BA + MA in Educational Theatre or BA in Theatre Education;
- 3 years of full-time K-12 lead-teaching required (or five years of part-time K-12 lead-teaching in theatre summer camps and afterschool drama programs);
- Genuine interest in special education, gifted, and/or 2e learners Absolute tenacity — a “whatever it takes” attitude to student learning Adaptability, flexibility Exemplary time-management Excellent classroom management
- Commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
- Dedication to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and practices Proficient with classroom technologies (e.g., SMARTBoard, Google Suite) and eager to learn more

COMPENSATION: Compensation is competitive and based on both credentials & experience; the contracted salary range is $75k - $100k.
