Crossroads School seeks the unique college counselor for the 2022-2023 school year who is capable of balancing progressive education values with the more traditional college-going expectations prevalent in selective college admissions through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Crossroads instills and cultivates a process-centered approach to learning, and to post-secondary planning, amidst fearless pursuit of traditional, and non-traditional, colleges and careers.
The Associate/Assistant Dean of College Counseling will work in concert with the Dean of College Counseling, Associate Dean of College Counseling, the Upper School Advising team, Dean of Curricular Life, Dean of Students and the Head of Upper School to provide comprehensive college counseling, academic planning and social/emotional development and learning. The Associate/Assistant Dean should be skilled at, and excited to provide individualized and specific college counseling services for students with a range of interests and talents, including exceptional artistic and athletic abilities.
The candidate must have excellent listening, organizational and communication skills. Public speaking experience, multi-tasking ability and comfort with a fast-paced environment are expectations. The best candidates will possess an easy-going personality, a great sense of humor, a fully-charged work ethic and a love of working with teenagers.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Manage the college counseling process for approximately one-third of the junior and senior classes.
- Meet with seniors as needed to create and finalize college lists, review essays, proofread/edit applications, etc.
- Author highly personalized letters of recommendation for high school seniors.
- Participate in all office-sponsored programming (including the occasional nights and weekends) and show enthusiasm for enhancing or reimagining programming.
- Participation in the larger Crossroads School community via a wide-range of campus-wide programs and events.
- Commit to engage in community-wide Equity and Social Justice programming, dialogue and activism.
- Utilize college counseling technology (i.e.: Naviance, Scoir, Blackbaud, Google Docs) to both guide students through the college selection process and manage enrollment data.
- Show willingness to learn technological skills and/or systems in order to manage and assess current practices.
- Handle highly sensitive material with discretion.
- Engage in professional development opportunities, such as visiting colleges and universities throughout the academic year and representing Crossroads at national and regional college admission counseling conferences.
- Meet with college representatives (both on campus and through professional development opportunities) in order to establish and/or develop collegial relationships.
- Collaborate with the College Counseling team to author communications for internal and external use.
Key Qualifications:
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Bachelor’s degree required/Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in college counseling and/or college admissions, higher education, classroom teaching and/or other school-based advising/counseling practice.
- Outstanding written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong critical thinking abilities surrounding trends and best-practices in the college to career landscape.
- Technological proficiency and an openness to learn, including an openness to learn from students.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to embrace the concept of multiple intelligences and to witness students in their areas of strength by attending myriad plays, performances, athletic contests and more.
