Bridgton Academy seeks a English and/or Humanities teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline is required, and hiring preference will be given to those with a master’s degree and/or teaching experience in secondary or postsecondary classrooms. We are eager to speak with candidates that will bring diverse experiences and culture to their work with our students in the classroom, athletics, and residential life.
Key Responsibilities and Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of English, history, or related fields.
- Familiarity with a range of resources in the teaching of English and/or humanities, including textbooks, online modules, and open source materials.
- Understanding of the base of skills necessary for student success at the Academy as well in college.
- Ability to recognize, support, and adapt lesson planning for students with a variety of learning styles.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Sense of collegiality and desire to collaborate with other teachers for the betterment of the student experience.
Other Academy Expectations
- Participation as an athletics coach or another similar extracurricular opportunity, such as outdoor programming, or art and music.
- Working as an advisor with a group of our young men. Supervision of evening study hall and dormitories as assigned.
- Weekend campus supervision and activities. (Valid driver’s license required.)
- Housing may be available for full-time candidates only.

Founded in 1808 and located in the hills of western Maine, Bridgton Academy provides a unique educational experience for 18- and 19-year-old young men during the year between high school and college. Our academic program prepares students to succeed in college and to do so at schools that might otherwise have felt out of reach. Our athletics program prepares student-athletes to compete at the college level while successfully balancing academics. Our student life program couples independence with mentorship and provides opportunities for outdoor programs, weekend activities, and service to local organizations.
