The System Administrator performs analysis in the design of Oakwood’s existing computer network and documents, implements, maintains, and monitors the networked systems infrastructure for robust and efficient operation. The System Administrator is responsible for the storage area network, server infrastructure, virtual server administration, database administration, email system administration, and disaster recovery administration. We are seeking candidates who have previous experience working in self-directed positions, with minimal supervision.
Job Duties & Tasks

- Manages project plans for server, database, disaster recovery, and virtualization systems, by establishing project schedules and timelines for systems design, validation, and implementation
- Plans and implements storage systems and virtual environments
- Creates and reviews reports on storage systems and virtual environment usage
- Plans, organizes and defines project scope, requirements, methods, end objectives, project schedules and priorities
- Manages the planning, installation, configuration, operations, maintenance, and security of servers, database systems, disaster recover, data storage systems, email systems, and operating systems
- Develops and maintains a disaster recovery plan for administrative systems and coordinates activities to test and validate the plan
- Establishes a growth plan for the network server infrastructure
- Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future data and/or voice network expansion
- Assists in the development of detailed bid specifications for new hardware and software
- Troubleshoots system problems and recommends solutions or executes repairs
- Configure, install, maintain, and upgrade Windows and Apple hardware/Software
- OSX, iOS, Windows and Android support experience
- Provide technical guidance for hardware technology platforms including servers, networking, computers (desktop, laptops, tablets), SmartBoards, audio-visual equipment (projectors, sound system, video, and still cameras), and printers
- Performs cost and system analysis and makes recommendations
- Develops and implements run-time environment scripts
- Participates in the development of department staff by providing technical direction in the completion of work tasks, establishing daily work priorities, contributing developmental feedback to performance evaluations
- Conducts research and provides information about the current and future state of technology
- Performs other related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of:
- Principles and methods of TCP/IP network technology design and administration, including domain name services, routing, send mail, gateway, NFS, SMTP, SNTP, NetWare
- WAN technologies including serial, dedicated digital services, switched digital services, ISDN, T-1, T-3, Frame Relay, Fiber Optic technologies
- Internet services including FTP, telnet, Gopher; knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP, IPX
- Data communications technologies and standards and emerging standards
- Network cabling and hardware, including hubs, repeaters, switches, bridges, routers, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, terminal servers, print servers, CSU/DSUs, Codecs and SNMP-compliant devices
- Networking transmission standards, including serial, ethernet, FDDI, ATM and emerging technologies
- Electronic mail exchange methods, messaging standards and protocols
- Router configuration and management
- Microcomputer operating systems and shells
- Basic systems analysis and design concepts
- Information sources to remain current in the field
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field and 3+ years of experience
- Thorough knowledge of computer hardware and software and a variety of internet applications, networks and operating systems, internet security and data privacy principles and troubleshooting skills
- Must be able to prioritize and carry out assignments with a high degree of organization, accuracy and timeliness
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with computer system users, department staff, vendors and others encountered in the course of work
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including those from a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students, faculty and staff
