Summary:
Vermont Academy is nestled on four hundred fifty acres at the foothills of the Green Mountains in Saxtons River, Vermont, and has provided a supportive community and close personal attention to its students for 146 years. The Director of Health Services will provide administrative direction and leadership to the Health Services and Sports Medicine department. They will develop, implement, evaluate and maintain a system for upholding the highest standards of practice in whole-person health care.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop policies and procedures for health and counseling service delivery, upholding legal, ethical, and clinical guidelines, within the regulations set forth by the State of Vermont, accepted standards of practice, the purposes and objectives of the Academy, and in cooperation with other health care providers.
- Establish objectives for areas of responsibility, and the structure necessary for reaching these objectives.
- Provide leadership in areas of responsibility and greater community regarding health and safety issues; direct and supervise work of all employees within the scope of responsibility.
- Develop budgetary guidelines, establish priorities, and monitor expenditures of each area of responsibility.
- Assess to insure areas of responsibility meet regulatory standards
- Assure effective communication and coordination between areas of responsibility and the Academy in support of student success and community wellness.
- Make recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer/COO, Assistant Head of School, Head of School, and/or Board of Trustees regarding personnel and facility needs.
- Directly evaluate staff nurses, counseling staff, and head athletic trainer
- Collaborate with the Curriculum Committee to assess the health education curriculum and recommend changes.
- Collaborate with the Student Life office to:
- Provide staff training and support in areas of health, wellness, student needs, boundaries, substance abuse, relationships, blood-borne pathogens, infectious disease, medications, misconduct, harassment, and other identified need areas.
- Provide student training and support in healthy relationships and areas identified above.
- Promote cooperative relationships among employees including mediation between employees.
- Have current knowledge of statutes and laws pertaining to all areas of Health Services
- Prepare quarterly reports of Health Services activity for the Board of Trustees
- Attend Administrative Team meetings as scheduled
- Meet with all Health Services staff at regular intervals to evaluate students, services, and set goals
- Develop all Health Forms and oversee completion of forms for all students.
- Monitor immunization status of all students and file appropriate reports with the state of Vermont.
- Coordinate on-site influenza vaccine clinic
- Coordinate and manage collaboration with the Medical Director, consulting psychiatric and consulting orthopedic practices
- Create, update and facilitate a bi-annual review of all standing orders and practice procedures with the Medical Director
- Collaborate with Admissions to review applicants with significant psycho-social and/or medical histories
- Collaborate with VT Department of Health, Agency of Education, CMS, and/or other government agencies in the event of reportable communicable disease events and CLIA-waived laboratory practices
- Create and update contents of student medical records within Magnus electronic medical record
- Liaison with Magnus Health
- Oversee student medical record compliance
- Delegate duties as needed to employees
- Cover infirmary hours as needed
- Participate in weekend nursing call rotation
- Manage Global Benefits Group insurance for international students
