Léman Manhattan Preparatory School seeks a Nurse for the Residential Life program for the 2022-23 School Year!
The Residential Life program at Léman Manhattan Preparatory School is one of the only high school boarding programs in New York City, attracting a talented pool of students from around the world. Léman Manhattan is now seeking a LPN, or Registered Nurse (RN) for its Residential Life program for the 2022-23 school year.
This position involves overseeing all tasks related to boarding students’ health and wellness. The Residential Life Nurse is responsible for creating a safe and nurturing environment while ensuring that all students’ medical needs and state requirements are met.
This position is for 40 hours per week on weekdays, with a daily 7:30am start time. This is a live-out position that reports to the Director of Residential Life.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Management of Student Illness
- Assess all student complaints and apply the necessary nursing interventions
- Create and carry out student care plans, including scheduling of specialist doctor’s appointments, medication management, and follow-up care
- Communication with parents, guardians, School Nurse, and Residential Counselors regarding management of care
- Oversee immunization program to ensure all New York State requirements are met
Safety
- Assist in ensuring that the Residential Life program is a safe environment and promotes healthy behaviors
- Monitor for outbreaks such as pink-eye, strep throat, meningitis, MRSA, and other communicable diseases
- Assist with managing of medical emergencies while on duty
Policies and Procedures
- Collaborate with school leadership to create policies and procedures for Residential Life regarding management of medical issues, communicable diseases, medical communication, and health and wellness initiatives and assuring that all practices are appropriate according to NYS law
- Oversee medical supplies and order as necessary
- Ensure that all medications and supplies are not expired
Administrative Tasks
- Document medical assessments using the appropriate platform
- Complete insurance paperwork and ensure efficient processing of claims
- Use the Orah student management technology to conduct student checkouts on a periodic basis
Oversee Residential Wellness Program
- Create educational materials and programming to support the development of healthy behaviors while students learn to live independently in a residential environment
- Assist with other aspects of the Residential Life program based on individual strengths and interests
Requirements
- LPN, or Registered Nursing (RN) degree from an accredited nursing school
- Minimum 3 year working in a school, university, or residential setting
- CPR/AED certified
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to delegate tasks to non-medical Residential Life Staff members
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with English language learning (ELL) students
- Proficiency in a second language is a plus
- Experience working with adolescents
- Experience in case management
- Ability to work independently
- Passion for working with international high school students
- Willingness to be part of a new and growing program
