The Parkside School is seeking a dynamic, creative 4/5 day a week Music Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. Our music teacher is responsible for teaching music to all elementary age classes of children at the school; assisting with all drama classes; planning and leading assemblies; preparing students for the annual Arts Festival; and supporting the drama teacher for the duration of rehearsing for the upper school play. In addition to teaching, the music teacher has all the roles and responsibilities that a specialty teacher staff member has, including writing reports; meeting with parents; attending school-wide, department, and team meetings; and supervising students during times designated by the administration. The Music Teacher is responsible for running all classes during the Drama Teacher’s absence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Teach elementary music classes with an emphasis on singing, movement,
musical games, and percussion instruments.
? Collaborate closely with the drama teacher to create a cohesive and
integrated curriculum.
? Differentiate instruction to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of
students with varying abilities, attitudes, and learning backgrounds.
? Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that
preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the
allotted time.
? Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an
orderly and productive environment during practice, group rehearsals,
and music performances.
? Establish and maintain standards of student behavior that is aligned with
Parkside’s core values of respect, support and compassion.
? Provide musical programs for school assemblies in collaboration with the
drama teacher. Evaluate each student’s musical abilities so that each
child has a moment to shine in a performance setting.
? Be able to improvise musically on piano to accompany various
movement activities.
? Prepare three visitor performances across all grade levels throughout the
year. (Nine visitor performances in total)
? Plan, rehearse and direct the year end school play with the drama
teacher.
? Teach weekly choral music to selected 4th and 5th grade students.
? Write team notes for every team meeting and attend assigned meetings
to properly communicate with the other departments.
? Write biannual reports on each student to communicate clearly with
parents and school faculty.
? Assist morning floor duties and dismissal process.
? Fulfill all other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Arts and
Movement Department.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
? Minimum BA in Music or Music Education, minimum 2 years teaching experience
? Strong piano skills, including piano accompaniment a plus
? Orff, Kodaly, or Dalcroze training strongly encouraged
