Position Summary
Kent’s Marketing and Communications Office seeks a Photography & Media Specialist who will, through a variety of photos and videos, document every facet of Kent School and share that documentation on social media. Ultimately, this individual will elevate, amplify, and advance the mission, values, and beliefs of Kent School through marketing communications that engage, inform, and delight the community.
About Kent School
Kent School is a coeducational, independent boarding school enrolling 520 students in grades 9-12. Our mission is to educate students intellectually, socially, ethically, and spiritually so that they will be prepared to contribute to the common good in the world beyond Kent School.
About This Role
The Photography & Media Specialist, in close partnership with the entire Marketing & Communications Department, is responsible for chronicling Kent School through evocative, high-quality images that will be used in a wide array of contexts to engage all of Kent’s constituencies: students, employees, parents/guardians, alumni, trustees, families, and friends.
Specifically, this role involves:
• Documenting academic classes, athletics, student life, residential life, campus events, the campus grounds, and more through photos to be used on the website, in newsletters, in admissions outreach material, on social media, in fundraising and stewardship materials, etc.
• Creating short-form videos to be used on social media, the website, and more.
• Executing a collaboratively developed social media strategy using those images and videos.
• Weaving yourself into the fabric of the institution to capture the essence of Kent School.
The schedule of this role is built around the academic year when classes are in session. The week-to-week schedule will be developed through a collaborative process that ensures key events, experiences, and aspects of Kent School are captured. Frequent evening and weekend work is required. This role offers ample time off when school is not in session: winter recess in late December, spring recess in March, and summer recess in mid-June through late-August. Please note the exact dates of these breaks change each year.
What You’re Looking For
Joining a recently formed department, this individual will participate actively in the development and execution of a multi-year strategic marketing communications plan focused on every component of Kent’s marketing and communications. As the department grows and becomes more established, this is a compelling opportunity to
influence how Kent is perceived. This role is ideal for an entrepreneurial individual who wants to maximize their impact on the School while making the most of a flexible schedule with year-round paychecks and benefits.
What We’re Looking For
In addition to a bachelor’s degree, the right candidate will demonstrate much of the following:
• A strong desire to learn about Kent’s mission, values, and culture.
• Excellent time management, a flexible approach, and a high level of energy to ensure projects are completed on time.
• A collaborative nature, comfort with asking clarifying questions, and a knack for transparency.
• An aptitude for processes and procedures with an appetite for increasing efficiency and accuracy.
• A laser focus on the details, with the ability to see the bigger picture when needed.
• An outstanding eye and skill for photography. The ability to capture formal moments and “in-between” moments in a way that tells a story, and with a variety of image types to populate Kent’s various communications channels.
• Expertise with photo editing, tagging, and storage.
• Comfort with deadlines and varying levels of supervision.
• A friendly disposition with an approachable attitude and a warm sense of humor, eager to build partnerships across campus.
• Expertise working with the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, Gmail, the Adobe Creative Suite, and other related tools, and/or an eagerness to learn.
• Experience working in a content management system and/or a database system, and/or an eagerness to learn.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
? Primarily an office/classroom environment at times, with frequent handling and manipulation of photo equipment.
