POSITION TITLE: Boys Basketball Head Coach - Freshman/Sophomore Team
REPORTS TO: Boys Basketball Head Coach - Varsity, and Athletic Director
SUPERVISES: N/A
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Part-time, Seasonal
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Develop and sustain a collaborative environment that promotes growth, wellness, and excellence in conjunction to providing sports activity supervision, training, and coaching to student athletes.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, strong work ethic, responsibility, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, leadership, and self confidence
- Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
- Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school athletic program and school community.
- Supervises practices, games, and team trips.
- Updates knowledge of technical aspects for the assigned sport and willingness to continue to learn and examine new ideas pertinent to the assigned sport or coaching in general.
- Maintains inventory of uniform/equipment issue.
- Works with athletic director for scheduling.
- Establishes lettering criteria.
- Establishes a policy with parents and players to address issues or concerns.
- Updates the athletic director frequently during season about any issues, concerns, or highlights.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to organize and supervise a sports program/team.
- Preferred previous coaching experience in assigned sport.
- Good role model.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
