Position description
Ecole Bilingue Middle School is seeking an English Language Arts teacher for the 2022-23 school year. The successful candidate must be able to transfer their enthusiasm for and deep understanding of the English language and the humanities to students using multiple modalities and authentic applications in order to make learning relevant and meaningful for students. Differentiation, such that students are appropriately challenged within their developmental level, and a meaningful approach to homework is an expected instructional strategy. Experience with technology integration and implementation of innovative learning strategies is highly desired. They must also demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills, creativity, a high degree of self-direction and flexibility, and a willingness to look at the curriculum and practice through a DEIJ lens.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- I) Curriculum, Materials, and Classroom Management
- Establishes an inspiring classroom setting that is organized and engaging with systems and procedures that manage student behavior, movement, and learning.
- Establishes a powerful classroom culture where children have high expectations for themselves and for others, are self-motivated and self-directed, and where children value and love learning.
- Develops and implements individualized learning plans, small and whole group lesson plans, and classroom activities consistent with the Ecole Bilingue educational philosophy.
- Teaches a weekly Advisory class for 10-12 students
- Collaborates with team members on curriculum and teaching practices.
- Harmonize the English curriculum to match the French curriculum (scopes and sequences matching)
- II) Parent Education, Meetings, and Conferences
- Provides students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress; finds ways to involve parents/guardians in their student’s education.
- Assists in the development of and participation in school functions, including but not limited to orientation meetings, parent education, and school-wide activities.
- Prepares documents and reports necessary to facilitate parent-teacher conferences or other meetings requested by parents or school administration.
III) Record-Keeping and Data Assessment
- Assesses students regularly (informally and formally), examine assessment data, and refines learning plans to differentiate instruction for each student.
- Maintains grade books and meets reporting deadlines.
- Prepares student progress reports and assessment reports in a timely manner.
- Writes high school recommendation letters and assists in placement exams.
Other Responsibilities:
- Serves as an advisor and chaperone at least one outdoor education trip
- Teaches two weekly enrichment classes
- Actively participates in professional development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and desired personal qualities:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field required; Master's Degree highly preferred
- 3-5 years teaching experience
- Demonstrated commitment and experience with culturally responsive teaching practices
- Deep knowledge of middle school English curriculumand writing strategies
- Student-centered with an experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
- With a growth mindset and can use feedback to refine practice
- Commitment to professionalism and excellence
- Commitment to continuous growth and improvement
- Organized and able to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Collaborative, accessible with a professional demeanor
- French language ability is not required but is highly desirable
