Academy of the Sacred Heart seeks an energetic and inspiring Middle School Humanities teacher who develops students’ passions and curiosities and helps them think deeply about the world through various lenses of history, literature, and media. We want our students to find their voices and express their ideas confidently through the spoken and written word.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Collaborates well with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment and instructional strategies.
- Develop lesson plans and select learning material and resources that will help achieve curriculum objectives.
- Execute lessons efficiently using different styles of teaching depending on the content.
- Analyze needs, interests, strengths, and weaknesses of students and differentiate instruction accordingly.
- Monitor student progress and shift expectations to promote academic growth.
- Promotes the use of multiple methods in solving problems, identifying more efficient strategies and generalizing principles to a broad variety of applications.
- Encourages collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning and to consider multiple perspectives when solving problems. Engage students to ensure a lively classroom atmosphere.
- Teach students to think critically and with an interdisciplinary mindset.
Invests in the life of the school by participating in the advisory program, social and emotional learning, weekly department meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings, and any and all aspects that support the student experience. - Demonstrated professional behavior, including discretion, judgment and integrity.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and families.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.

Basic requirements include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree History/Social Studies K-8/6-12
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the middle school level
- Strong interpersonal as well as written and verbal communication skills.
- A desire to seek out professional development activities related to the latest instructional strategies, student growth and best pedagogical practices.
- Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Sacred Heart community
- Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs
