Middle School Math Teacher
Green Acres School is seeking a full-time teacher of math to middle school students. The successful candidate will have an approach to the discipline that encourages a high degree of math fluency and problem-solving by balancing an established and successful scope and sequence with interesting and engaging projects. We believe that students are most successful when their ability to “speak and write math” is cultivated alongside their ability to solve problems showing their work. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of how math creates models of our world, and she or he will incorporate that understanding by teaching math not just as abstract problems and theory, but also as it explains and illustrates the world around us. The successful candidate will have the capacity to meet the needs of a range of learners—both engaging struggling students as they hone their number sense and teaching advanced math to students ready for that challenge. Our lower school through sixth grade use the enVision Math program from Savvas. Our pre-algebra and regular algebra classes use McDougall-Littel math books as the main text. And our Advanced Algebra program uses Exeter Math 1 as the backbone of the curriculum. Middle school math teachers also serve as student advisors and engage students in social-emotional learning as well as acting as liaisons between advisee families and the school. Core middle school teachers accompany students as a chaperone on overnight trips of 3-5 days once or twice a year. Finally, our math teachers incorporates competition work for programs like MathCounts into occasional lessons and lead math teams in countywide and statewide competitions.
