Green Acres seeks an experienced middle school language arts teacher. The seventh and eighth grade language arts program helps students to become increasingly sophisticated as readers, writers, and thinkers by engaging them in the reading of novels (like The Outsiders and Long Way Down), poetry, and short stories, and by having them write both creatively and analytically. Applicants should demonstrate experience in hands-on, project-based learning as well as more traditional forms of instruction. Students currently engage in projects where they stage a mock trial, write memoirs and poetry, and become part of a “Human Library.” Middle school classes cultivate skills through collaboration, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving. Our teachers are able to use best practices in classroom management while also building strong relationships with individual students. The expectation for professional collaboration is high in order to coordinate efforts as a teaching team, to serve students effectively, and to build integrated cross-curricular projects. This fulltime position would also include serving as an advisor to a small group of students and as a liaison to the families of those students. Teachers are expected to plan and supervise day field trips and to participate in an overnight field trip of several nights’ duration in the spring.
Green Acres seeks an experienced classroom teacher with a background in curricular and pedagogical innovation and teaching experience relevant to this position. The successful candidate will possess the following capacities: a sincere love of working with tweens and teens, a passion for literature and the English language, a love of teaching and reading, curiosity and a growth mindset, the ability to provide differentiated instruction, and an interest in integrating technology into the curriculum. A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
