Position Overview
Seacrest seeks an seeks a full-time Band teacher for its Middle and Upper School divisions for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Essential Job functions:
- Communicates with the student body and encourages participation in the band activities
- Instructs Fifth Grade through Upper School students in selecting an instrument, developing knowledge and skills in band music utilizing repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of the students.
- Provides opportunities for the music ensembles and solo material of varying style and skills during and after school hours.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs students in multiple musical programs for the school and community and collaborates with staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, flag ceremonies, open houses, graduation, etc.
- Plan and perform lessons that are balanced between preparation, rehearsal and instruction; prepare, administer, and grade tests; listen to oral presentations; maintain classroom discipline.
- Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Evaluate each student’ musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals.
- Meet with parents and school staff to discuss a student’s academic progress or concerns.
- Organizes storage areas, inventory of school-owned instruments, maintains the music library, and controls the use of materials and equipment related to the band program; requests supplies and repairs as needed
- Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures; provides assessment; prepare report cards; use computer to record grades and perform other administrative duties.
- Meet professional obligations including but not limited to meeting deadlines and honoring schedules.
- In addition to classroom activities, teachers oversee study halls, homeroom/Advisory; accompany students on field trips; supervise hallways, car line and extracurricular activities.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers and community.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Leadership Team.
Minimum Qualifications: Documented proficiencies in Music Education and performance. Thorough knowledge of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments is a must. Helpful if able to arrange music for band and woodwind ensembles. Ability to work with students of all skill levels in a group setting, allowing all to contribute.
Minimum of 2 years teaching experience and/or completed student teaching in instrumental classes

- Mobility– Teachers, especially in performance arts, spend time standing, walking, following, or kneeling with students in the classroom and performance venue. If this activity is not possible, accommodation will need to be discussed that does not affect the safety of the students.
- Climate – Teachers move with the students outdoors; supervising hallways, lunch, and dismissals when weather allows, and traveling on field trips inside and outside. Work is performed primarily in classrooms but will include vehicles, and outdoor settings, in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, during day and night events. Work is often performed in large, loud, and sometimes stressful situations.
- Strength – Requirements are moderate i.e. occasional lifting of instruments over head for storage and moving of tubas and drum sets and other instruments for rehearsal or performance, occasional lifting of 10 pounds (such as books, stands, chairs) with frequent lifting/carrying of items less than 5 pounds (such as grade book, test papers, reports).
- Communication – must be able to communicate directions, exchange ideas, understand student concerns/questions, and provide classroom instruction with the students.
- Mental acuity – must be able to supervise students as the sole adult in the classroom.
