Job Summary:
Francis W. Parker School is currently seeking a 7th Grade Assistant Teacher. This position combines assisting 7th grade faculty, providing supervision for student tutorials and/or special projects and miscellaneous clerical responsibilities. The successful candidate must be interested in and, preferably, experienced in working with Middle School aged students. Interested candidates must be flexible in that they will be assisting different teachers throughout the 7th grade team in their classrooms. Creativity, sense of humor and the ability to communicate with preadolescents are important. There are options to coach, lead a community service group and/or help on school-out-of doors camping excursions. Willingness to chaperone over-night trips with other teachers is required.
Assistant Teachers for the coming school year (180 workdays) are scheduled Monday through Friday beginning at 8:00am and ending at 3:30pm. Recess, lunch and dismissal duties are as assigned. A key quality in a successful candidate will be taking initiative in a classroom setting, reading the room, and anticipating student and teacher needs.
Assistant Teachers have the opportunity to learn under the supervision and mentorship of experienced lead teachers before taking on the responsibilities of their own classroom; the role is a 1-2 year commitment and Assistants who wish to return for a second or third year are recommended by teachers and appointed by the Head of Intermediate and Middle Schools. Assistant Teachers participate in a variety of professional development activities which are scheduled periodically throughout the school year during school hours.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- Ability to interact well with students, faculty, staff, administration, and parents
- Knowledge of typical Middle School curricula preferred
- Experience working with students with learning differences strongly preferred
- Strong math skills; experience teaching or supporting math instruction preferred
- Strong cultural competency and a desire and commitment to further developing it at Parker
- Enthusiastic desire and commitment to learn and improve professionally
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Flexible and highly responsible
- Must enjoy working with Middle School students and have a genuine interest in teaching
